I happened to be going to the Bird's Nest for a concert, so I chose Changbaishan International Hotel. The butler, Zhouzhou, contacted us proactively several days in advance and arranged a vehicle to the Bird's Nest for us. The room was quite large and very clean. Overall, the experience was pretty good.
The oversized bathtub in the room was great, and at night you could see the Bird's Nest lit up. After a full day of fun, the kids came back and a hot bath was so relaxing. Some rooms by the window also have a view of the Bird's Nest—you can lie in bed and take in the city lights, which creates a lovely atmosphere.
The hotel is very close to the Bird's Nest. I booked it specifically to see Wang Sulong's concert, and the hotel thoughtfully arranged direct shuttle service to and from the Bird's Nest. Great value for money, and the breakfast was decent too.

Star-rated hotels — especially chains and anything four-star and above — almost always register foreign passports as routine. Smaller local hotels sometimes lack the foreign-guest license. Since 2024 hotels officially may not refuse foreign guests: if refused, call or SMS 12345. Book refundable when unsure.

China's official hotel star rating is assessed by tourism authorities (GB/T 14308 standard): ★★★ = comfortable and reliable, ★★★★ = high-end with full services, ★★★★★ = luxury. It certifies quality, not foreign-guest policy — that's why we flag it separately.
Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay with your foreign Visa/Mastercard before you fly — QR payments work at virtually every hotel. Foreign credit cards are accepted at the front desk of most star-rated hotels. Full payments guide →
